Biodiversity Policy
Importance of Biodiversity for LEG
LEG is aware of the importance of preserving biodiversity and ecological sustainability. Biodiversity and the associated interactions between real estate and neighbourhood development and environmental impacts play a key role in this. Biodiversity not only contributes to the creation of habitats and stabilisation of ecosystems, but also improves air quality, supports the energy efficiency and resilience of buildings and leads to an enhancement of the living environment and a positive influence on human health. As a responsible housing company, we are committed to taking the importance of biodiversity into account in our activities with this guideline. We strive to minimize our impact on the environment, protect and promote the preservation of biodiversity and take measures to protect the climate. In doing so, we act within legal and regulatory requirements.
By doing so, we also want to create and increase awareness of the importance of biodiversity for our tenants and employees. The integration of green spaces and biologically diverse elements can increase the well-being of residents by providing a relaxing and attractive living space. The measures can also help to improve the microclimate in residential areas by reducing heat island and improving air quality.
LEG is committed to promoting biodiversity within the scope of its possibilities and thus actively counteracting climate change. In doing so, it supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the following areas:
Compliance with all legal standards relating to biodiversity (e.g. Federal Nature Conservation Act), including:
No development in legally designated protected areas,
Obligation to respect legally designated protected areas,
Obligation not to convert areas of high conservation value,
Obligation to avoid negative impacts on endangered and protected species
Limitation of land sealing
Land sealing should be reduced to the bare minimum
Promotion of individual sustainable initiatives on the open spaces of the housing stock and company premises
The guideline is to be understood as a framework and will, if necessary, be detailed by specific measures in the coming years.
